Legends of Old No.7

Legends have been passed down from generation to generation about what Old No.7 might mean:

• It is believed that Jack Daniel had 7 mistresses or that he wrote the letter “J” of his name as the number 7. According to another version, he chose the number 7 because he considered it lucky.
• The second legend says that this was the seventh attempt to find the perfect recipe.
• According to another legend, seven stores were owned by Jack’s old friend and it was in them that Jack Daniel’s whiskey was sold best.
• However, there is a more plausible assumption. The duty on alcohol in each region of the United States was different, each state had its own marking. Tennessee was "number seven" in that system. Later, this state received a different number - 16.
• But the most interesting version is connected with seven lost barrels of whiskey, on which, when the loss was found, Mr. Jack allegedly put the number “7”. Later, the merchant who received these barrels was so enamored with Jack Daniel's whiskey that he ordered another batch of “that old number 7.”

The brand owes its name to a real person named Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel, born in 1850. Reverend Dan Call decided to pass it on to a young employee because he had to choose between the ministry and the business. The fact is that preaching did not go well with owning an alcohol production plant.

Strictly speaking, Jack Daniel is not the creator of this whiskey, since after the death of his parents he received ready business from the priest who sheltered him. However, he made such a great contribution to the technology and promotion of the drink that today he is considered the founder of the brand.

So, while still a teenager, Jack begins to develop his business. He found a piece of land in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and moved the equipment there. Spring water from a limestone cave was used to make drinks, and Jack Daniel considered it the main resource of the enterprise. The factory was officially registered in 1866 and is the oldest Distillery in the USA, registered by law.

Composition and production technology

Jack Daniels whiskey is the only brand that has a separate classification as “Tennessee whiskey.” It contains 80% corn, 12% rye, 8% barley. All ingredients are mixed clean water from the Cave Springs spring, which gives the drink its recognizable softness. Water contains a small amount of impurities and salts, which has a beneficial effect on the taste of whiskey. Its temperature all year round is 13 degrees.
