Salted dough

On our website you can see many different crafts created based on salt dough.

Here one of the recipes for the manufacture of salt dough:

1Mix a glass of flour and 1 glass of salt.

Then pour in 125 ml of water(the volume is approximate, because the amount of water may depend on the type of flour you used for the dough). Stir this mass again with a spoon, and then knead with your hands until a homogeneous consistency. Some people use a mixer for this purpose.

By the way, water can be replaced with jelly made from potato starch(Dissolve 1 tablespoon of starch in 1/2 cup of cold water. Then pour another 1 cup of boiling water into this liquid, stirring. When the jelly thickens and becomes transparent, remove from heat. You get a paste). The dough will only benefit from such a replacement - it becomes more plastic.

Just don't overdo it! If the dough is too soft, knead it with a small amount mixture of flour and salt additionally. Salty dough there must be dense.

Now you can sculpt! It is better to sculpt on a sheet or board - this a good place for drying. The drying itself is carried out at a temperature of +80C in the oven for an hour, or on a radiator (in winter period). The drying time depends on the thickness of the figurine.

If you need color salty dough , then it can be colored either at the kneading stage, using food coloring or gouache, which is convenient when working with small children; or color it already ready product after complete drying.

And our craftswomen have their own subtleties and secrets for working with salt dough. That's why , go to the blog , Whose work did you like and ask! I’m sure the craftswomen will be happy to share with you!

green = blue + yellow

orange = yellow + red

brown = green + red

emerald = green + blue

flesh = light pink + a little yellow

gold and silver will be obtained if you add the corresponding color of gouache or acrylic, in the same way you can get glitter dough(gel for gouache)

Master Class

Master Class (MK) - this is the transfer of his professional experience by a master (teacher), his consistent, verified actions leading to a predetermined result.

To publish a master class, the work must be original (invented and made by you). If you used someone else's idea, you must indicate the author. (The link to the source should not lead to a site containing sales of goods or services, since links to commercial sites are prohibited according to clause 2.4 of the PS).

Your master class should not completely duplicate the one already available in the Land of Masters. Before publishing, check through the search that there are no similar MKs on the site.

The process should be photographed step by step (see Tips for photographing crafts) or filmed (see how to upload a video).

Order of registration: first photo - finished work which is proposed to be completed, the second photo - materials and tools necessary for the work (or their detailed description), then the stages of MK from the first to the last. The final photo (the result of the work) can repeat the very first one. Photos must be accompanied by clear and competent comments about the process.

If you have already published your MK on another site and you want to also publish it with us, then you need to follow all the rules for designing a MK described above. In other words: in an entry with the MK type, you cannot simply put a photo of the finished product and a link to a master class on another site.

Attention: all master classes in the Land of Masters are checked by site assistants. If the requirements of the Master Class section are not met, the entry type will be changed. If the site's User Agreement is violated, for example, copyright is violated, the entry will be removed from publication.

For modeling lessons with small children, it is better to use salt dough or Play Doh plasticine.

How to make dough for crafts: recipe

You can make the dough yourself; all you need is a few simple ingredients: flour, fine salt, lemon acid, vegetable oil and water.

First mix 1 cup of flour with 0.5 cups of salt and 2 teaspoons citric acid. Pour into a saucepan, add 1 tablespoon of oil to the dry mixture. Place over medium heat, gradually add water and stir. No more than 0.5 cup of water should be used. When the mass pulls away from the walls of the pan and becomes one lump, remove the pan from the heat. Take out the mixture, place it on a board sprinkled with flour, and regular dough, knead with your hands.

If you want to do colored dough for modeling, first you need to dilute dry food coloring. It is also possible already in ready dough add a little gouache and knead it well until the color becomes uniform.

How to prepare salt dough for modeling?

Prepare salt dough. Paint it in different colors, depending on what you want to make. The dough can be made uncolored, divided into balls and add a little gouache of the desired color to each and knead. It's better to make the dough in regular colors, and then mix them to achieve the desired one.

Keep the dough in a bag, or wrap it in cling film, can be placed in a closed container to prevent it from drying out. If it is still dry, add a little water, and if it is too wet, add a little flour.

  1. Make the dough thinner and simply spread it on the base of the craft, so you can make butter on a piece of bread, or make it from brown dough chocolate glaze for the cake
  2. Try on the food you made with the toy plates that you will later play with so that they match in size
  3. To stick the salt dough pieces together, use a wet brush. Apply a brush to the joint and stick the parts to each other
  4. When making food for dolls, it is very important to make the dough as much as possible the same color as the original, for example, the carrots should be orange, not yellow or red
  5. To prevent the colors from fading, open the craft with varnish. For activities with children, you need to use special harmless varnishes; they do not have unpleasant odor because they are water based

Drying figures from salt dough for modeling

  2. Baking in the oven. Preheat the oven well, place baking paper on a baking sheet, place crafts on top, place in the oven and turn off the heat. The oven should be closed and not opened until completely dry. You can also bake crafts at a temperature of 100°C, but in this case you need to watch them so that they do not burn

These two methods can be combined, for example, dry it in the oven for an hour, then leave it in the air, after a while in the oven, and so on until it dries.

  1. 3 cups (300 gr.) wheat flour.
  2. 1 cup (100 gr.) rye flour.
  3. 2 cups (400 gr.) fine salt.
  4. 250 ml water.

Rye flour gives the figures a warm bread color. To prepare any dough, mix flour and salt, then pour in gradually cold water and mix again. The degree of readiness of the dough can be determined as follows: if the dough stretches and sticks to your hands, it means there is a lot of water in it. Therefore, you need to add more flour.

To work you will need:

  1. The dough is salty.
  2. Stack.
  3. Peeler.
  4. Toothpick.
  5. Manicure file.
  6. Black peppercorns.
  7. Paints, brush.
  8. The varnish is transparent.
  9. Garlic press.

Roll out the flatbread to a thickness of 0.5-0.7 cm, this will be the chicken’s nest itself. We make the side parts of the nest using a garlic press. We form a “straw” by moistening it with water.

Leave the work to dry for 1 day so that the dough holds its shape well in the future. Let's start sculpting the chicken. We sculpt the body blank. We need the chicken as a stand for an egg, which means we need to make a recess for the Easter egg. Let's take it round shape, make a notch, sculpt the breast and neck of the chicken. Use a vegetable peeler to feather the breast.

Insert a toothpick into the chicken's neck, leaving 1.5 cm. Connect the nest and the chicken's body. Roll out the dough, make wing blanks 1 cm thick. Draw the plumage with a vegetable peeler, attach it to the body of the chicken, moistening it with water.

Next, our task is to give the chicken a beautiful tail. We take an oval cake 0.7-1 cm thick as a basis. We make the plumage with a vegetable cutter. We trim the edges of the tail with a knife to resemble the pattern of feathers. Make the cuts neat, smoothing them with your fingers. Attach the tail to the chicken's body. Place something under your tail, such as a ball or an apple. After the product dries, remove the apple.

Roll into a round ball for the head. We shape the scallop using our fingers and a stack, giving it the desired look.

To make the eyes, you need to mark their location. Make dents for the eyes with a stack. Next, use a vegetable peeler to make dents so that the eye becomes shaped.

Insert a peppercorn instead of the pupil. We make a beak and sculpt it to the head.

We fasten the head and body by putting the head on a toothpick. We attach a small strip of dough to stabilize the head. Decorate the chicken neck with dough feathers. You can make “earrings” for the chicken from pieces of dough.

We sculpt chickens in the same way. Don't forget to wet the parts for better fastening.

We leave the product to dry for 1-2 days, placing them in a distant place, maybe even on a closet. After a day or two, when the chickens and chickens have hardened, we finalize the work: we plant the figures on leaves, moistening the centers with water. Leave it in the air for 1-2 days. We dry the products first in air, and then put them in the oven at a temperature of 50 degrees for 1 hour. After drying, paint and cover with clear varnish.

Another option: dough figures: we make Easter bunnies, hens, chicks. You can make fridge magnets out of them, or pendants on willow branches.

Most quick option gifts - multi-colored paper napkins and ribbons. Twist it boiled egg into a napkin and tie with a ribbon. Can be replaced with corrugated paper.

This funny and interesting Easter chicken can be crocheted.

To work you will need:

  1. Yellow yarn, 100% cotton or 50/50,
  2. Some orange and white yarn.
  3. Hook number 3.

We start knitting from the body. First 7 rows:

1st - 8 sc in an amigurami loop
2nd - knit 2 sc in each loop (16 sc)
3rd - 1 sc, 2 sc, and so on (24 sc)
4th - in every third loop add: 2 sc, 2 sc (32 sc)
5th - in each 4 p. add: 3 RLS, 2 RLS (40 RLS)
6th - in every 5 p. add: 4 RLS, 2 RLS (48 RLS)
7th - in every 6 p. add: 5 RLS, 2 RLS (56 RLS)

15th - knit the 5th and 6th stitches together (40 sc)
16th - we knit 2 rows without decreasing (40 RLS)
18th - knit the 4th and 5th stitches together to decrease (32 RLS)
19th - no decreases (32 RLS)

We fill the chicken with cotton wool or padding polyester.

20th - knit every 2nd and 3rd stitch together (16 sc)
21st - knit every two loops together (8 sc)
Cut the thread and carefully sew up the hole.

Wings (2 wings):

  • 1st - dial 7 air. loops with yellow yarn, 1 sc in the second loop from the hook, 4 sc, 3 sc in one loop, 4 sc, conn. P.
  • 2nd - 1 VP, 4 RLS, two times 2 RLS in one stitch, 3 RLS in one loop, two times 2 RLS in one loop, conn. P.
  • 3rd - 1 VP, 1 sc in each loop
  • 4th - 1 VP, 1 connection. p. in each loop

We knit the paws with orange yarn:

  • 1st - 2 VP, 6 sc in the second loop from the hook (6 sc)
  • 3rd - increase in every second stitch (18 RLS)
  • 4th - row without changes (18 RLS)

Beak (1 piece)

1st - cast on 5 VP, 1 sc in the 2nd loop from the hook, half-dc, 1 dc, and 1 dc2h

Eyes (2 parts)

  • 1st - 6 sc in amigurami loop (6 sc)
  • 2nd - increase in each stitch (12 sc)
  • 3rd - increase in every 2nd stitch (18 sc)
  • The beads are different (colors are indicated next to the diagrams).
  • 2 meters of thin fishing line or nylon thread.
  • 2 beading needles.

We start weaving from the central row from number 1 to number 2, then we perform each part separately at different ends of the fishing line, using the table.

In the egg weaving pattern, notice the double rows (12 and 13 at the top, 13 and 14 at the bottom). For a chicken-shaped keychain in the upper part, we first weave the right wing (numbers 5 to 9), and then the left wing (numbers 10 to 16). Next, we move on to the design of the head (numbers 17 to 40).

What would Easter be without Easter cakes, Easter eggs, souvenirs and angels? You can make these original Easter angels with your own hands from regular pasta. Pasta can be anything: stars, cones, spirals, vermicelli. Such angels can be hung on a willow branch or placed in Easter basket.

To work you will need:

  1. Pasta.
  2. Ribbons or sticks.
  3. Hot-melt gun or Moment glue.
  4. PVA glue.
  5. Salt dough balls.

Use a glue gun to connect the head (dough ball) to the body. Next, glue the ribbon to the back. We select wings from pasta and glue on top of the braid.

Thickly coat the angel's head with PVA glue and lower it into small vermicelli or stars. This is the "hair" of an angel.

For hands, use openwork pasta. Apply glue thickly on the sides, near the wings and glue.

Paint or plain paint golden color or aerosol.

If you want to insert them into an Easter basket, insert a stick inside the pasta body and glue it, the crafts are ready.

The most simple craft made from salted dough for Easter, which does not require any skills at all - these are Easter eggs, which can be decorated either in the form of a long garland or each separately.

Example No. 1 Garland of Easter eggs

Prepare the salt dough and roll it out into a large layer. Next, cut out an egg-shaped stencil from cardboard - apply it to the rolled out dough, and cut out the shapes we need from the dough. Make a hole in the top of each testicle using a pen or pencil. We send the dough to dry.

After the dough has dried, decorate it and thread a ribbon through the hole. You can tie a beautiful bow and leave the product like that, or you can tie several eggs into a long garland.

Example No. 2: A simple product - a basket

You can also try making a simple basket with eggs. Ideal for introducing children to sculpting.

The estimated size of the basket is 15 by 15 cm. The working algorithm is as follows:

  1. We take about 100 grams. dough and form the box of the future basket at our discretion.
  2. To add texture to the weave, you can use a regular fork. The ornament will not only enliven the future product, but also give it an optimal shape;
  3. From two pieces of 50 g. roll two thin long sausages. Approximate length 14 - 16 cm.
  4. You need to intertwine the pieces together and attach the formed handle to the body of the basket. Moisten the joints with water.
  5. To make eggs, simply roll out smooth balls of similar size.
  6. It is convenient to sculpt leaves and flowers from pieces of 5 by 2 cm. Texture can be added with the blunt side of a knife or a fork, depending on the type of leaves you intend to use.
  7. Place the eggs in the basket and add other decorative elements.
  8. When attaching each structural element, it is important to moisten the surface of the dough with water for better adhesion.

Example No. 3: Angel with an egg in his hands

  1. First we create a special stencil for the future angel.
  2. Using a stencil we cut out the base of the angel. The thickness of the dough is about 5 mm. All torn or sharp edges that form must be smoothed out with your hands.
  3. To be sure of the strength of the future figurine, you can use toothpicks to create a reinforcement effect. To do this, just place several toothpicks along the body of the angel, in the direction of the wings and future legs.
  4. We create the legs that will look out from the mantle. You can make your fingers into a stack.
  5. Now you can start decorating the wings. Separate pieces of dough are used to form wing segments and attach them to the base. Patterns can be formed using a fork, pen refill and any other accessories.
  6. The hem of the robe can be made more realistic and voluminous. To do this, a ribbon is formed from a piece of dough and figuratively attached to the base.
  7. The angel's body should also be voluminous. This effect can be achieved by using several balls of dough to create a robe for the figurine;
  8. We form sleeves from two pieces of stucco molding. Where the palms should appear, we make a small indentation;
  9. For realistic hands, we form two “drops” and make fingers with a stack, sculpting them to the recesses in the sleeves.
  10. We roll out the cake for the collar, create a pattern and attach it to the overall structure.
  11. We form a small Easter egg and “hand” it into the hands of the angel.
  12. We create the head and face absolutely symbolic. It should be appropriate and neat. Credibility fades into the background.
  13. Hair can be created quite believable. For this we use a garlic press.
  14. We send it to dry. Possibly for the battery. 3 hours is enough;
  15. To emphasize the relief, the finished figurine is treated with a solution of coffee. Special attention attention should be paid to braid and places with intense ornamentation. The finished figurine can be placed as decoration on a shelf or table.
