It usually contains red onions, pickled cucumbers, bacon cracklings and other products, and is seasoned with mayonnaise, yogurt, and vinaigrette dressing.

It is traditionally served at Christmas, just like our Olivier. It can also be an excellent side dish for sausages, meat schnitzels, chops, ham, barbecued meat, fried fish (Christmas carp).

Making Czech potato salad

Of course, preparing Czech potato salad in another country with the same precision as in the Czech Republic is impossible. Because the products are different, and the atmosphere of relaxation and travel plays a big role in the perception of taste.

There is no need to think that there is some classic recipe for Czech potato salad with exact adherence to the ingredients and their proportions. Similar to Greek salad, every family or restaurant prepares it differently.

Czech salad has only one thing in common - boiled potatoes, which are boiled in their skins or simply cubed. Young potato skins are not peeled.

Making Czech Potato Salad

There are “poorer” options - potatoes, onions, herbs and mustard with wine, and there are recipes that are immediately obvious: the dish is festive. So that the potato pieces absorb all the aroma of the marinade, season it hot. Hence its other name - Czech warm salad.

You can decorate the potato salad with slices of lemon and pickled cucumber, boiled egg slices, and fresh herbs.

Czech salad with ham and its recipe are already traditional for our family. Back during the Iron Curtain, our relative visited the Czech Republic and, among other foreign things, brought the recipe for this salad. The salad, quite spicy, will suit any feast. The recipe talks about serving it in festive portions, but the salad can also be served in a common dish, but for this you need to take a large serving ring, or form the correct shape with your hands.

Ingredients:
- chicken;
- egg;
- apple;
- ham;
- vinegar or lemon juice;
- green pea;
- gherkins;
- mayonnaise.

Step-by-step recipe with photos:

Boil chicken fillet or thigh, cut into small cubes or disassemble into fibers.

Boil the egg and grate on a grater with medium holes.

Choose firm apple varieties, preferably with white or green flesh. Peel and grate the apple, sprinkle with a little vinegar or lemon juice.

Add mayonnaise and mix. If the mayonnaise is tender, add a little salt. This will be the centerpiece of the salad.
Arrange the salad using a serving ring. It can be completely replaced with an empty plastic bottle with the top and bottom cut off.

Strain the peas. This step should not be skipped, since we do not need the liquid from the peas.

Place the peas on top of the salad and press lightly with your hand. If you are making a salad using a serving ring for the first time - generously brush the top with mayonnaise - then the peas will definitely stay in place.

Slowly remove the ring and adjust any fallen peas.

Cut the ham and gherkins into equal pieces. This point is extremely important for salad design.

Place ham and cucumbers one by one along the edge of the salad, as shown in the photo.

For strength, you can grease the sides of the salad with mayonnaise so that the cucumbers and ham fit tightly to the salad.

The salad looks very appetizing and will attract the attention of guests with its stripes.
The portion serving of the salad was described above.

To serve the salad in a common dish, you can cut all the ingredients into cubes, but do not add peas to the salad, just sprinkle them generously on top of the salad. Decorate the edges of the plate with diced ham or herbs.

After this, the beef is cut into thin strips and fried in vegetable oil until golden brown and soft. Next, add onion half rings to the meat and continue cooking for about 5-9 minutes.

As for the green apple and bell pepper, both ingredients are thoroughly washed, peeled and chopped into strips. Pickled cucumbers are processed exactly the same way.

Correctly forming a delicious Czech salad

After frying the beef with onions, remove the ingredients from the stove and cool slightly. Then all excess oil is drained from them, pickles, fresh apple and bell pepper are added. The products are flavored with lemon juice, salted and seasoned with mayonnaise.

This salad is presented to the table while still warm, along with a piece of dark bread.

Making delicious Czech dumplings

This dish is the hallmark of Czech cuisine. There are many recipes for preparing such a product. We will consider only one of the simplest options. For this we need the following set of ingredients:

  • light wheat flour - about 500 g;
  • whole milk or drinking water - approximately 250 ml;
  • dry granulated yeast - 4 g;
  • table salt - about 2 dessert spoons;
  • granulated sugar - ½ dessert spoon.

Cooking process

In fact, there is nothing complicated in making Czech dumplings. Pour granulated sugar into warm drinking water and stir until dissolved. After this, add granulated yeast and a dessert spoon of wheat flour to the same bowl. Mix all ingredients thoroughly and leave aside for ¼ hour.

After time has passed, add table salt to the dissolved yeast and add the remaining wheat flour. After kneading a soft and homogeneous dough, cover it with a towel and leave it warm for 50 minutes.

After the base swells, knead it again and divide it into 4 parts. We form flat cakes from each product and roll them into a loaf. In this case, we do not use flour.

Having formed mini loaves 15-20 cm long, leave them aside for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, fill a large saucepan with water and place it on the stove. After the liquid boils, carefully place all the formed dumplings into it.

After adding a little salt to the water, close the dish with a lid and cook the contents over very low heat for 10-13 minutes. By the way, the liquid should cover the products so much that they float freely in the pan.

After time has passed, turn the flour product over to the other side using a spatula and cook for another 5-7 minutes. To check the readiness of the dumplings, cut them in half. If the thickness of the product is sticky and sticky, then it is recommended to cook them for a few more minutes.
