Tea will not be able to radically change the color of white fabric, but it will help hide light stains and give things an antique look. The tea method is suitable for anyone who has the opportunity to boil water.

Steps

Part 1

Prepare the tea

Remove the tea bags from their packaging and trim the threads. Unwrap each sachet and use scissors to trim the threads.

Boil large saucepan water with salt. There should be enough water in the pan so that the fabric can be immersed and moved freely in it. Add to water table salt and place the pan on the stove. Turn on strong fire and bring the water to a boil.

1. Brew tea in water. Once boiling, remove the pan from the heat and place the tea bags in the water. Allow the tea to steep until it fully develops its color. In most cases this will take at least 15 minutes.

   • The longer the tea steeps, the more saturated the color of the water and the dyed fabric will be. Before placing the fabric, you should make sure that you are happy with the color of the water.

   Part 2

   Immerse the fabric in water

   1. Wash or wet the fabric. The fabric should be damp at the time of painting. Wash previously used fabric to remove stains and dirt. If you are using a new cloth, wet it with water beforehand and then wring it out.

      • Only natural fibers such as cotton, silk, linen and wool can be dyed with tea. All synthetic fabrics such as polyester are not suitable for this method of dyeing.
      • Before painting, the fabric should be wrung out, but not dried.

   2. Remove the bags and place the cloth in water. If the tea has already colored the water the desired color, carefully remove all the tea bags from it. They won't be useful anymore. Place a damp cloth in the pan and make sure it is completely submerged.

      • Use a wooden spoon or other tool to spread the cloth in the pan and submerge it completely under water.
      • Some areas of the fabric will begin to float. Submerge them under water using a spoon.

   3. Leave the fabric in the solution for at least one hour. After immersing all the fabric in the pan, leave it in the solution for at least 60 minutes. The longer you keep the fabric in the tea, the more saturated the color will become.

      • You can leave the fabric in the solution overnight to make sure the color is saturated.
      • It is recommended to stir the fabric periodically so that the color is evenly distributed on its surface.
      • You can remove the fabric from the solution from time to time and check the color. It is important to understand that dry fabric will be lighter than wet fabric, so sometimes it takes longer than it seems at first glance.

   Part 3

   Rinse and dry the fabric

   1. Rinse and leave the fabric in cold water with vinegar. Once the fabric has been dyed the desired color, remove it from tea solution. Rinse quickly in cold water and then leave for 10 minutes in a container with cold water. Add a little vinegar to the water to lock in the color.

      • If you are concerned about the tea smell of your fabric, hand wash it with a mild detergent to get rid of the smell.

Modern women often do handicrafts - they sew, knit, make soft toys and create real masterpieces of the currently popular hand-made style. Sometimes for work you need to get fabric of a certain shade or you just want to experiment with its color. How to dye fabric at home? In our article we will list the “helpers” - natural remedies, with which you can paint matter in all the colors of the rainbow.

So what are these clothing dyes? You might be surprised, but we're talking about red cabbage, beets, oranges, lemons, onions, blueberries, blackberries and spinach. And also about other helpers - tea and coffee.

Dyeing fabric is a creative process. Love of experimentation is the main quality when working with natural dyes. Don’t be afraid to change the number and composition of ingredients, leave the fabric in water for different time- the results will allow you to choose exactly what is required.

What exactly to use

Natural dyes for clothing allow you to obtain a wide range of colors. Blueberries and beets allow you to achieve red or pink tones. Their pigments will help you achieve a beautiful and unusual “dusty” pink shade.

If you want purple or blue varieties, try blackberries or red cabbage. If you need mustard or copper colors - think about the usual onion skins that are used to paint eggs at Easter.

Yellow flowers are achieved using lemon and orange peels. The zest gives the yellow fabric a soft tint. A pale green color can be achieved with spinach. But for bright green, it’s better to take regular pharmacy green.

How to dye fabric at home - process technology

Let's start brewing the "potion". We cut the selected ingredients, put them in a saucepan, and add twice as much water. Once it boils, let it cool for an hour. Do you want more saturated color- leave it on all night. And don’t forget to strain the liquid - dyeing fabric is fundamentally different from making compote!

Particularly successful dyes for clothing and just fabric can be obtained from beets (the ruby ​​tint appears literally before your eyes!) and from onion peels. But spinach is not so effective.

How to prepare fabric

Before you dye fabric at home, it needs to be specially prepared - using a fixing solution, with which the coloring pigment will stick better. It is prepared like this: in the case of painting with berries, half a cup of salt is diluted in eight glasses of water, the fabric is boiled in the resulting solution over low heat for about an hour. If you paint with vegetables, the solution is prepared using vinegar, which is diluted in water in a ratio of 1:4, the procedure is exactly the same.

Removed from the solution and rinsed with cold water, the fabric is ready to meet the dye. We immerse it in a container with our homemade paint and leave it for a while. Which one exactly depends on how rich the shade you need.

Once dry, the dyed fabric will fade slightly - this must be taken into account in advance. But remember that natural dyes They have excellent strength and stability; fabric dyeing with their help will retain its freshness for a long time.

Dye the fabric flesh color

How to dye fabric at home tan or flesh-colored (let's say you're sewing a tilde doll)? In this case, one should take as a basis natural fabrics such as flax or calico in light colors, and both aniline dyes and the most regular tea or coffee. Wine and some juices are also good.

Before dyeing, new fabric is washed - the factory impregnation is removed. Then a solution is prepared with which the fabric is dyed. Here are some suitable recipes.

Dip our fabric into a hot solution of strong black tea for about 20 minutes. For strength, add a little to the brew baking soda. To ensure uniform coloring, the fabric should be stirred. Then it is wrung out, straightened and dried. The final shade will appear in two to three days.

Not only tea, but also coffee

Coffee solution - take a tablespoon of salt (tablespoon) and a liter of water, add the cheapest instant coffee- 50 grams, dye the fabric with constant stirring for about a quarter of an hour. Then rinse in cold water and dry in the same way, straightening it out. Coffee can also be brewed in a Turk. In this case, the dyed fabric will have an inherent light coffee aroma.

In stationery stores or special departments for creativity, you can buy aniline dyes for fabric and batik. Dyeing fabric to match a natural tan is achieved by mixing brown (as a base) color with orange, white and red. At first you will have to experiment with proportions. Too dark tones are lightened with white paint.

The desired shade can be achieved by correcting fabric already dyed with black tea using aniline dyes.

Dyeing fabric without unnecessary risk is ensured by test dyeing on a small piece of it.

Remember that natural fabrics can be saturated with the desired color more easily and quickly compared to synthetic ones.

There are special fixatives for factory-made paint.

Different brands of tea under the same conditions will give different shades and color intensities.

Fabric dyeing - MANGANESE

Very durable coloring. Things painted with potassium permanganate have been washed many times and the color does not wash off. I used Ikea white Lenda.

I poured just a little manganese into warm tap water, and the solution turned out to be a dark cherry color. Mix well to dissolve. I put pieces of fabric. I took it out immediately, after 1,3,6,10,20 minutes, then after 1,2,3 hours (remember to stir).

I dipped more double pieces, colored for 1 and 2 hours, into the turmeric solution. Then I dried it, ironed it and designed everything on a sheet of paper. And this is what happened:

Manganese gives a good color, and with turmeric you can make it a little yellower, it turns out nice. :) Don't forget to wear gloves when painting and stir the fabric in the solution for uniform coloring.

Fabric dyeing - COFFEE

I used instant Pele in a red jar.
I brewed it with boiling water (2 options - 1.5 teaspoons per 200 ml of boiling water and 3 teaspoons per 200 ml of boiling water), stirred well to dissolve. I put pieces of fabric. I took it out immediately, after 1,3,6,10 and 20 minutes (remember to stir). I dried it, ironed it, and then designed everything on a sheet of paper. And this is what happened:

The colors turned out good, light and warm. In reality, the gradient from piece to piece is more visible. Although this scan is closest to the original. Where the coffee is thicker, the color is a little richer.

In the third version with coffee, turmeric. Oh, and a vigorous thing! :) I came to the following conclusion with her: if the fabric turns out to have a gray tint (this can also happen from coffee or tea) and you want to make it a little warmer, yellower, then after dyeing it in tea/coffee you need to quickly dip the fabric in a solution with turmeric. Dry, look - if yellow is not enough, then dip again. Because when left in a solution with turmeric for a long time, the fabric becomes very stained yellow, and if you do it quickly like this, you get a neat yellow tinting. Oh, and don't forget to wear gloves when painting!

Fabric dyeing - TEA

For my handicrafts I needed to dye the fabric in a flesh tone. I tried it different ways and as a result, entire “color cards” were compiled - a useful and necessary thing in handicrafts. :)
Today I’ll show you what happened with the tea. I used "Princess Nuri Highland" packaged.
There was an Ikea white Lenda at home. This is thick cotton, well suited for sewing bodies for toys like Tilda.
I brewed tea and steeped it for 5 minutes under the lid (2 options - 2 bags per 200 ml of water and 4 bags per 200 ml of water), wrung out the bags, threw them away, and dipped a cloth into the tea leaves. Then, immediately or after 1, 3, 6 minutes, the fabric was taken out, rinsed in cool water and dried, spread on a towel. And then I ironed it and saw what happened.
I also experimented with turmeric in pure form and added to tea.
The result is presented in this table:

To ensure even coloring, do not forget to stir and move the fabric. Otherwise, the tea will settle to the bottom (and turmeric too) and stains will appear on the fabric. I didn’t particularly need this for samples, so my fabrics are partially striped. :)

Today, the Tilda doll is becoming increasingly popular, which can be used not only for play, but also for interior decoration. And if you make a brownie in this way, it will become an excellent talisman for your home, capable of protecting it from everything bad. Features of making Tilda dolls

As for the history of the appearance of these amazing dolls, then, most likely, our grandmothers created something similar in childhood. But only in 1999 the production of Tilda was put on stream and they began to be used for decorating the premises. When purchasing such a doll for decoration purposes, you can purchase Tilda stuffed with a collection of fragrant herbs that can fill your home with pleasant aromas.

When making such a doll, keep in mind that this work requires painstakingness from you. You must sew even the smallest details carefully. Don’t forget that thin arms and legs also need to be stuffed with padding polyester and then carefully sewn on. It is also worth paying attention to the seam, which traditionally runs through the center of the face. Try to make the halves of the head equal, otherwise the face will look asymmetrical.

If we talk about clothes, they are usually sewn to the body.

This must be done very carefully so that the seams are not noticeable to prying eyes. If you want your doll to sit, you should make a few stitches under the knee. In this case, the doll’s pose will not look tense.

As for the seams, all parts of Tilda need to be sewn with a hidden seam so that it looks solid. And as we have already said, in order for Tilda not only to decorate your interior, but to flavor it, you can put special sachets in the middle with aromatic herbs. Moreover, you can add finely ground cinnamon or vanillin to the filling.

You can fill Tilda with sea salt. But before mixing it with the filler, it is worth flavoring it. To do this, you can simply add a few drops of essential oil to the salt.

Another flavoring option is to add sea ​​salt small quantity chopped mint, lemon balm and other aromatic herbs.

One of the features of making these dolls is the light brown color of the parts.

Unfortunately, this is where difficulties most often arise, because choosing the right shade is quite difficult. And so today we will talk about how to dye fabric in the desired shade at home.

This can be done by adding the following ingredients to the water:

• Coffee,
• Zelenki.

And now we will look at the coloring technology using the presented ingredients.

How to dye fabric with tea

There is nothing complicated about the tea dyeing method. First of all, in this case, you need to cook a special solution. To do this you will need an enamel saucepan, a few spoons of brewed black tea and cold water.

We make the solution as follows:

1. Pour cold water into the pan. Add a few spoons of tea there. Attention! The amount of tea will directly depend on what color you want to get in the end.
2. Place the water and tea on the fire and bring to a boil. At the same time, make sure that too much water does not boil away, since in this case you will not have anything to dye the fabric with.

After the solution is ready, filter it through two- or three-layer gauze. Add a little salt to the resulting liquid. This is done in order to natural dyes absorbed more strongly and practically did not wash out.

We need to paint our future Tilda as follows: simply dip the fabric in water and boil in the solution for an hour to an hour and a half.

Attention! During the boiling process, do not forget to periodically stir the fabric so that it does not become stained. And one more thing: never dry the fabric in a vertical position, since stains will definitely form where the fabric comes into contact with the rope or clothespins.

How to dye fabric with coffee

Before you start dyeing fabric for Tilda in this way, keep in mind that after this procedure the doll will most likely smell of coffee. You can give your Tilda a light tan color by preparing a solution of coffee, which should be applied to the fabric using a regular brush.

In this case, the solution must be prepared as follows:

1. Dissolve three to five tablespoons in half a glass of water ground coffee. Attention! The coffee should be natural, not instant, because otherwise it will be almost impossible to predict the color of the fabric. By the way, if you wish, you can add half a teaspoon of vanillin to this solution to give the fabric an even more refined and multifaceted aroma. Also pay attention to the fact that the solution must be thoroughly filtered before use, since lumps of coffee may cause dark brown spots or streaks to appear on the fabric.
2. To ensure that the fabric is dyed evenly, be sure to wash it thoroughly before dyeing using laundry soap.
3. Before dyeing the fabric, it is better to completely form all parts of Tilda's body. If the color turns out to be too saturated, you can simply wring out the part using a damp cloth or gauze. And then all the excess color will remain on it. And one more nuance: when drying, try to ensure that the fabric does not come into contact with other surfaces, since the color will be less saturated in places of contact.

How to dye fabric green

If you need to paint some details of your Tilda’s outfit in emerald color, then for this you can use green paint.

Previously, I had only thought a couple of times about the fact that you could dye fabric at home.

Somehow there was no need for it.

Although, even now I don’t really need it (no, I dyed lace with tea leaves a couple of times 🙂), but one of my readers is fond of the Tilda doll, and for her she dyes fabrics at home, and even with natural dyes.

I was very happy when she kindly provided a workshop on fabric dyeing.

Materials:
Flax cuts – 3 pcs.;

Ground cinnamon – 1 tbsp. spoon;
Onion peel - 2 zhmen.

Any craftswoman knows how important it is to have fabrics on hand. different colors and shades: when the choice is large, you can easily choose a material for any idea. Here dyes come to our aid - and not only artificial, but also natural. Ordinary cinnamon, ground coffee and onion peels will help us make fabric of interesting shades.

How and how to dye fabric at home:

1. First, let's try to color a piece of flax with cinnamon. Fabric dyed with this seasoning is especially loved by those craftswomen who sew tilde toys. The fact is that cinnamon gives the fabric a very delicate shade, and in the future such fabric can be used to create doll faces. For dyeing, we take light linen - the effect of dyeing will be better visible on it.
So, put a spoonful of cinnamon in a saucepan, add two glasses of water and bring to a boil. As soon as the liquid boils, put a piece of fabric into it and cook for 10 minutes.

2. After 10 minutes, remove the flax from the water with cinnamon, rinse under cold running water and dry. We get a beige fabric with an interesting gingerbread shade.

3. Now let's try to dye the fabric using coffee. Pour a tablespoon of ground coffee into two glasses of water and bring to a boil. Then put the prepared piece of flax into it and cook for 10 minutes, as in the case of cinnamon.

4. After 10 minutes, remove the fabric from the coffee water, rinse thoroughly in cold water and dry. Coffee dyeing produced a similar color, but after boiling in cinnamon the fabric appears more pinkish, and after boiling in coffee it appears more brown.

5. C onion skins Let's do it a little differently. Fill it with two glasses of water, bring to a boil and boil the liquid for 15 minutes until we get colored water. Only now can we put the fabric blank into the water. Cook it together with the onion skins for 10 minutes.

6. Take a piece of flax out of the water, rinse and dry. We got linen with a rich sandy shade.

As a result, we have three pieces of fabric in new shades that we can use to sew delicate dolls or toys. A whole palette of fabrics can be obtained using natural dyes!

P.S. And on my own behalf I would also like to add that these fabric dyeing skills can be used not only for tilde dolls, but also for other purposes. For example, I dyed white lace to a creamy shade using tea leaves. To do this, I brewed a few bags of black tea (to make it strong) and then soaked the lace in this liquid. The color can be varied using the exposure time :)
