Deciding, reluctantly, to cook pilaf in the microwave, to experiment, so to speak, I even purchased some lamb ribs for this occasion, which turned out to be very successful, moderately fatty.

Microwave dishes are not large in size; this is not a handmade cauldron that I brought with me from my distant homeland. Therefore, I will have to think carefully about all the proportions of the ingredients and their quantities. It will not be possible to use, as in the classic version of the pilaf recipe, 1 kg of all components. I yield to the circumstances.

How to cook pilaf with fluffy rice in the microwave

So that's it. I prepare the meat, wash the rice very thoroughly, changing the water many times. I remember the time when I went out into the yard and washed rice in a basin under the water tap for probably half an hour. And we didn’t have to save water; we didn’t have any meters for it. Well, now you have to be satisfied with the average quality of rice washing. But there are also advantages in the present tense; you do not need to sort through all the grains of rice, removing the garbage that was then found in it. After all, he literally moved grain by grain. Yeah. And now in front of me is snow-white and purest rice. Unfortunately, it is long-grained. And, well, it’s very long. I don’t like this kind of rice, I like round rice, like for making sushi. Long rice, once cooked, according to my child, looks like pasta.

I place rice, washed and dried, at the bottom of a microwave-safe saucepan. I forgot to say that when washing rice grains, you need to rub them well between your palms to wash off the rice dust from each grain so that the water becomes completely clean and transparent. Then there is hope that the rice in the pilaf will be crumbly and not sticky. And the result will still be something more reminiscent of pilaf than porridge. Let's hope.

On top of the rice I place chopped carrots about 0.5 cm thick and meat. I don’t add the onion yet, I’ll put a small amount of it at the very end so that it has the opportunity to fry a little and doesn’t turn out boiled. Boiled onions in pilaf? Ugh!

I add all the spices that I usually use and seasonings: barberry, cumin, turmeric parika, salt and pepper. Garlic. It’s a pity I don’t have canned chickpeas, I really love them in pilaf.

Having placed the lamb ribs on top, I allow myself to add a little chopped onion. But the taste of fried onions will still not be felt in the pilaf. What could you come up with? Yeah, I have knoor semi-finished onion soup, which is simply oversaturated with this very taste. I use it together with some water in pilaf. The job is done, the dishes and contents should go into the oven for 20 minutes. Normal mode - combi.

After 20 minutes, I take out the saucepan and add enough water to cover all the contents. It looks like something similar to pilaf. And back into the oven, covering the dish with a lid.

In total, the process of cooking pilaf in the microwave took three times 20 minutes each. With breaks to check the state of readiness. After the second break, following tradition, I collect the pilaf in a mound and cover it with a lid to let it brew and steam.

It seems my experiment was a success. Every grain of rice speaks for itself.

Bon appetit!

I have been cooking pilaf in the microwave for a long time and quite often. You don't always get the same result, especially when you need to show it - as in this case.

Pilaf always turns out very tasty, but sometimes problems arise with its crumbliness. If you give a little extra water, you will end up with rice porridge with meat, although quite tasty. Therefore, be sure to take this fact into account. I have given the correct amount of water in the ingredients considering that the rice is pre-soaked. But when cooking, I lost sight of this and, out of habit, poured it in a 1:1 ratio (I haven’t cooked it for a long time), perhaps the rice turned out to be a little too small. I always use round Krasnodar rice (I don’t know what was in the pilaf, they bought it and poured it into the mold without me). I beg your pardon, the rice is not crumbly these days ((I’ll attach a photo of the resulting pilaf in the microwave later.

In the microwave, rice takes on a completely different taste than when cooked on the stove (I already wrote this once). And this is absolutely true. I like to microwave both rice porridge and rice as a side dish for this reason.

So, take the products from the list.

Wash the rice well, changing the water several times. Then fill the rice with water and leave until it’s his turn.

Cut the onion and carrots into thin cubes.

Pour sunflower oil into a microwave-safe pan, add onions and carrots, place in the microwave at maximum power for 3 minutes, covering each time with a lid. After each shutdown of the oven, you need to wait a little until the temperature is distributed evenly throughout the contents.

Cut the pork into medium-sized pieces.

Add the pork to the pan and repeat the frying process again.

Remove the pan, stir the contents and add spices. Warm up again for 1 minute.

Add strained rice and clean water.

Level the surface and set for 10 minutes at 80% power.

We take it out. There should be practically no water left in the rice. Salt the pilaf to taste, add whole cloves of garlic if desired. Stir, put the pilaf in the microwave for 5-6 minutes at maximum power without a lid.

The pilaf is ready. You can add more spices, it’s up to everyone’s taste. For a gentle diet, such pilaf is just right. It turns out to be more delicate in taste, because there are no fried meats or vegetables. Sometimes I combine cooking on the stove and in the microwave - I do the first part on the stove (brine), and after adding rice, I put it in the microwave. This pilaf turns out to be more similar to regular pilaf.

Serve pilaf cooked in the microwave, sprinkled with fresh herbs, adding pickles or salad.

Bon appetit!
